1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. This results in 40,000 precious lives taken annually.

October is the month devoted to breast cancer awareness. Although, with the inconceivable numbers of diagnoses and death, it is rare to find someone not already affected in some way by this life-threatening disease.

Thanks to improved  treatment and early detection methods, breast cancer mortality has decreased by 34 percent since 1990.   Numerous outreach groups such as The Breast Cancer Deadline, Susan G. Komen, and National Breast Cancer Foundation have worked effortlessly to pull resources to increase research, raise awareness and improve medical care to those at risk.

Thank you to everyone who showed up to Vinyasa to Vino this month to support the movement for a world without breast cancer. Proceeds from event tickets benefited National Breast Cancer Foundation and provided mammograms to women in need.

As we transition into a new season of goodwill and thanksgiving, Grip The Mat will continue to devote time and energy to the the many women (and men!) out there affected by breast cancer. We hope you all will too!
