The Playlist: Yoga and Wine Not Included

Did you know music can both enhance and alter your mood? Just like the food you eat, the music you listen to can have noticeable effects on your wellbeing. Unfortunately, a good dose of feel-good vibes like Sara Bareilles "Little Voice" album does not equate to the healthy benefits of fruits and vegetables. BUT, you can choose certain music to help you create a desired outcome. It's science.

Let's use tonight's Vinyasa to Vino at A Baked Joint in Washington, DC as a case study. The desired outcome was to feel relaxed and refreshed. We supplemented the yoga and wine with a carefully curated playlist to achieve this. Follow our flow below and check out Grip The Mat on Spotify for full yoga playlist recommendations.

to meditate

The album art alone shows the spiritual enlightenment this track can offer you. But seriously, if you're looking to meditate, turn on some ambient jams that will help you focus.  We like to sprinkle in some sitar here and there to amp up the meditation magic.

To warm up

For us, we wanted to keep it mellow at Vinyasa to Vino. We enjoy fan favorites like J Dilla and Mr. Little Jeans to keep the vibe right. If you'd like to heat things up fast, you may want to add more upbeat songs to help boost your energy.

TO WIND DOWN

We transitioned from heating standing sequences to cooling seated sequences and brought the tempo down with us. Be sure to test out new music to freshen up your music library every so often. Have you listed to Floating Sweetness by DJ Drez yet? It will rock your world especially towards the end of your practice.

TO BLISS OUT

Savasana is Grip The Mat's favorite yoga pose, so we like to make it juicy. We have a library of gooey songs that will help you melt straight into a state of nirvana. Make sure you add to your playlists the songs that let your soul sing.

There you have it! A mindful balance of music to pair with your yoga. Follow Grip The Mat on Spotify for more mood enhancing jams.

Cheers & Namaste!
