New GTM instructor Nichol Teaches Her First Vinyasa to Vino

Yoga, wine and everything nice.

Grip The Mat took over C.A.V.E. Gallery for another weeknight Vinyasa to Vino in Los Angeles! This time, new instructor Nichol Chase co-taught with co-founder Christy Skarulis.  The class was contemplative, fun and chalk full of all things GTM: vinyasa flow, fun partner poses, deep juicy holds and a Savasana surprise!

Not only is Nichol a professionally-trained yoga instructor AND formerly competitive yoga performer, but also a trained opera singer.  After her cool down, she lead yogis through a powerfully sweet lullaby accompanied by Ryan Svendsen on trumpet.

GTM yoga social events are made for you to relax and have fun, but also meet amazing people.

There's something special about bringing your yoga practice with you wherever you go. That's why GTM brings the events to different spaces around the city. The goal with pairing yoga with wine is to help integrate the practice into your daily life and apply yoga off the mat.

Thank you to all of the incredible yogis (new and advanced) who attended Vinyasa to Vino.

For those who could not attend, check out the Facebook page to see the magic yourself!

Cheers & Namaste

Soul & Spirits @ Hustle 2.0

To all the hardworking hustlers IN the world's most powerful city: Grip The Mat is a space for you to release stress and inhibitions.

On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, GTM Soul & Spirits at Hustle 2.0, a pop-up art exhibit by our buddies No Kings Collective.

Over 70 yogis switched out the pencil skirts and slacks for yoga pants. We could sit together, mat-to-mat, for a collective centering and a post-yoga cocktail-ing.

The vibe was right as our badass GTM duo Kiley and Brandon led the class through a calming mediation and a steady Vinyasa flow, all to soul-thumping music.

The premium bar was stocked with delicious and healthy cocktails. Menu items featured top notch coffee cocktails with Illy and refreshing vodka spritzers with Honest Tea's Honest Fizz! Could these yogis look any happier?

Attendees walked home with a swag bag full of take-home treats from our supporters. A big thank you to Illy and Honest Tea for elevating our spirits!  As always, KIND Snacks showed up strong and Chelsea Collective, one of our favorite women's fitness boutiques, stuffed the swag bags with items like gym towels, headphones and even glass water bottles!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who showed up! You are exactly what make Grip The Mat events so special.

Cheers & Namaste!

Moms Who Hustle - Grip The Mat's First Mommy & Me Event @ Hustle 2.0

There are women and there are superwomen. Then, there are moms.

Grip The Mat hosted the first ever yoga social just for moms last Wednesday, May 18th, 2016. The event was held at pop-up art exhibition Hustle 2.0 by No Kings Collective at Lab 1270 in Northeast Washington, DC.

The morning event started with mommy & me yoga by GTM instructor Brandon and co-founder Ashley. Afterward, attendees enjoyed a premium coffee bar by Illy and hydrating juices by Honest Tea. Gelato, affogatos (espresso poured over gelato), and KIND Snacks provided a nourishing treat both mommy and her kids could enjoy.

In addition to the yoga and tasty treats, activities like pay dough making and all-natural mat cleaner-making with dOterra Essential Oils rounded off the morning with a wholesome, holistic touch.

No matter how you slice it (or, in this case, scoop it), it's time to show #HustleMoms some TLC! Everyone walked away with a swag bag full of treats from all of our GTM-approved partners like KIND Snacks, Honest Tea, Illy Coffee and Chelsea Collective to take home.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our first ever Moms Who Hustle! Check out the Grip The Mat Facebook page for more photos from the day.

Moms Who Hustle is Grip The Mat's newest yoga social event series that nourishes moms' need for mindfulness and movement while also accommodating her little ones.

Grip The Mat Introduces Vinyasa to Vino to LA

We knew you were ready, Los Angeles.

Grip The Mat's first yoga social event Vinyasa to Vino was in a basement art gallery in Washington, DC. Less than two years later, Grip The Mat has introduced the signature series Our Vinyasa to Vino to Los Angeles.

We hosted our first ever yoga wine event in a basement art gallery, neutral territory for yogis and winos alike. To keep the theme alive and the juju right, we launched Vinyasa to Vino in a stunning gallery - C.A.V.E. -  off Abbot Kinney in Los Angeles.

Things panned out just as expected. Curious attendees trickled into the gallery and greeted their fellow yogis. As GTM instructor Ben lead the class in mediation, everyone settled in and closed their eyes unsuspecting of the upcoming pleasant surprise...

Live trumpet music by Ryan Svendsen filled the gallery for a tingling awakening of the senses. The spirits were high as everyone warmed up and they even broke the ice with a few partner postures!

After a heating vinyasa flow and a series of peak poses, it was time to wind down. Ariadne then lead the class through restorative asanas and into a dreamlike Savasana.

What came next was, of course, the wine. A tasting by ONEHOPE wines and treats by Beaming nourished our yogis. Another surprise raffle by Sweaty Betty and Alternative Apparel helped a few of our attendees wardrobe and everyone walked home with a swag bag filled with goodies by our local partners.

After the last attendee left the gallery, the verdict was clear: more Vinyasa to Vino in LA!

Cheers & Namaste, sweet yogis. We can't wait to see you soon at the next Grip The Mat event.

#CheersOrlando

Grip The Mat launches in our second city - Orlando, FL.

That's right!  Last week, we launched in our newest city with two sessions of  Soul & Spirits at The Attic in Downtown Orlando. We started with black light yoga to the beats of DJ Bear and then finished off with a social hour that featured organic Wheat Berry cocktails.

Our attendees caught the last glimpse of The Attic before it went under construction. The open floor was perfect for our sold out sessions and their bartenders skillfully mixed signature Wheat Berry drinks with tequila, rum and vodka options. We look forward to coming back and bringing out audience into the new and improved Attic!

A big cheers to our friends at Wheat Berry Cafe- a locally owned juicery in Longwood, FL. Their fresh-pressed, organic juices were the highlight of the social hour and added a yummy kick to the light-hearted atmosphere.

Also, our friends at KIND treated our guests with their healthy snacks and yoga mats!

Finally, cheers Orlando! We are so thrilled to be in your city and can't wait to see you at the next Grip The Mat event.

Cheers & Namaste!

Grip That Mat

Grip The Mat at DAYBREAKER DC Launch

Grip The Mat joined the international morning dance party sensation DAYBREAKER in their June 03, 2015  Washington, DC launch party!

Picture this: 6am on a Wednesday. The sun is still rising and the streets are quiet. In Flash, the infamous Shaw district nightclub, 60 yoga mats are set up in tight rows and DJ Ayes Cold is spinning in the booth. GTM's lighting designer Tall And Friendly dims the lights and the practice begins.

The practice begins with gentle warm up and then the beat builds.  Sequences transition to heart-openers and core strengtheners to work up toward standing peak postures.

After sharing some sweat, the lights dim again as the music and pace of the yoga practice slows down.

A restorative Savasana and a collective Namaste seal the practice. In mere minutes, 250 other DAYBREAKER participants join the room for a 2 hour early morning dance party!

Yoga + dancing. We couldn't think of a better way to break the day. We hope to see you all next time.

Cheers and Namaste,

GTM
